Our Team
Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Marie Jamora is one of the first Filipinos in the DGA, having directed episodes of Queen Sugar (OWN), Fire Country (CBS), The Resident (FOX), Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (PARAMOUNT+), and both seasons of The Cleaning Lady (FOX). She was an executive producer and the director of both seasons of Family Style (HBO Max). She produced and directed her films, Flip The Record and Harana, which won the Grand Jury Awards for Best Narrative Short at Urbanworld and the Sarasota Film Festival respectively, as well as her feature What Isn’t There (Ang Nawawala), which internationally premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival. After graduating from Columbia University with an MFA in Film, she returned to Manila to direct commercials and television.
In 2013, Marie immigrated to the U.S. and with a desire to amplify Filipino stories and as a champion of Philippine cinema, Marie founded CINEMA SALA, a platform showcasing Filipinx work in film and the performing arts. She has also taught Directing at the American Film Institute and Sundance Co//ab, is part of the leadership team of the DGA Women’s Steering Committee Squad and Activities & Events Committee.
Mallorie Ortega is a writer, director, and producer best known for the musical feature film The Girl Who Left Home. The film won many awards, including the Audience Award at CAAMFest FORWARD, the Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Best Picture and Best Director from the DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival.
Mallorie independently produced the film after gaining the courage from her mentors in the Television Academy Foundation Directing Program in 2016. Mallorie was a finalist of the Disney | ABC Directing Fellowship of 2018, and is slated to direct a feature film for Viola Davis’ production company, JuVee Productions. She was in the Spring 2020 cohort of the THEatre ACCELERATOR, developing The Girl Who Left Home as a staged musical under the mentorship of the Tony Award winning Broadway Producers responsible for An American in Paris and Memphis.
Growing up, Louise Barretto has always had a passion for intimate stories that connect viscerally. Like in well crafted coming-of-age stories, it’s like you discover a part of yourself as you experience what the characters go through. Before moving to Los Angeles, she worked as a TV producer for MTV Philippines' weekly show Timeout.
Working across mediums, Louise has produced magazine covers for Wonderland, Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, The Wrap and has worked with talent such as Christina Aguilera, Saweetie, Kim Petras, Keiynan Lonsdale. Her advertising credits include campaigns for Stoli Vodka, Shoe Dazzle and Remitly.
Her producing credits include No Vows, No Cows, which is a Film Independent Project Involve 2022 short; A Family Guide to Hunting and Hiding Spot. She has produced music videos for Iggy Azalea, Aidan Bissett, Elle E.D. Currently, she is a Women in Film (WIF) Physical Producer Fellow.
Originally from the Chicagoland area, Cynthia San Luis is a classically-trained, Filipina American actress currently based in Los Angeles. She will next be seen in the final season of Daniel Radcliffe's Miracle Workers on TBS/MAX after turns on crime drama series The Family Business and Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom.
On stage, Cynthia starred in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra -- with the production receiving 5 Broadway World nominations, as Ophelia in his Hamlet, and with critically-acclaimed theater companies Geffen Playhouse, A Noise Within, and IAMA Theatre Company. Most recently she completed an all sold-out run of #Don’t, a modern adaptation of Philippine National Hero Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, as Maria Clara, at the 2023 Hollywood Fringe Festival.
The UCLA Summa Cum Laude graduate is also a Voiceover and NFT artist and co-facilitator for Filipinx Actors Barkada.
Bianca Catbagan is a Filipino director & photographer based in Los Angeles. She heads development at the independent film collective Indie Pop Films and volunteers her time at Cinema Sala.
Bianca’s films are visually driven and place emphasis on the faces and stories of women. Her films have screened at Outfest Fusion, Vancouver Queer Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest London, Asian American International Film Festival in New York, and others. Her screenplay, 2AM in Tokyo, has been chosen as one of the projects for the Torino Film Lab's Next Feature program. She was a Cinematography Fellow at the CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy and a participant at the Reykjavik International Film Festival’s Talent Lab where her film was nominated for a Golden Egg. She was most recently the Audio Series and Originals Coordinator of The Gotham Film & Media Institute. She received her MFA in Directing and Screenwriting from Columbia University.
Andrea A. Walter (she/they) is a British Filipino filmmaker based in Los Angeles. They graduated with a BA in Film from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, studying cinematography under the mentorship of Michel Hugo, ASC. They are currently being mentored by Lilly Wachowski.
Andrea made their directorial debut with the feature film Empty by Design (2019), which they wrote, directed, and shot in their hometown of Manila. Their work has been showcased on various streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Twitch.tv, as well as at numerous film festivals including SXSW, CAAMFest, LAAPFF, and HIFF. Andrea is attached to direct two projects in development: The Girl from Saint Malo with producer Gary Luchessi and Bigfoot Woods written by ‘09 Outfest Best Screenplay winner Bruce Pavalon. Andrea’s latest screenplay, Syncopation, was selected for the Stowe Story Narrative Labs in 2023.
